It Pays To Keep On Writing

By: Tammy Dorset - [writing]
The needs of freelance writers have increased with the hope that someone out there would "spare them a dime" for their thoughts and expertise. Many web sites have tried to exceed reasonable expectations for freelance writers only to end-up folding, leaving many writers feeling unsure about their aspirations. This industry is in need of an outlet that can raise the awareness of the continued support freelance writers need to keep this prolific genre afloat.

Have you ever wanted to explore a variety of freelance writing genres but did not know where to begin? Have you ever found freelancing opportunities and the contact person was not "true-blue"? Are you tired of finding the opportunity, the right contact people, and remaining penniless? Have your feet already been wet and your skills tailored for a specific niche market? Do you want a pathfinder to leave big enough footprints that will lead you directly to where you want to thrive? Can you leave all of your "dead-end" writing experiences in the past and start anew?

Many freelance writers have been left in the cold after several dot coms geared towards them left them holding the bag. Thus, they have been in search of a stable outlet that can give them freedom to express having a major impact on their financial and professional status.

I found a web site through a Google search that I thought I should share with my fellow freelance writers. The web site is http://www.autobyografy.com. At the time of the dot com craze for freelance writers, I remembered this site being one of the only ones that was helping independent writers get published. Honestly, I thought the company went out of business with the rest of the freelance writer dot coms. However, they are still here. After visiting the site, I found that they had expanded their opportunities for writers. The following information is some of the resources I found on their site:

Writing Jobs - If you are looking for a variety of writing jobs visit Big Mouth Careers http://www.autobyografy.com/p/BigMouthCareers/Homepage-Next.php that offers hiring solutions, castings/jobs and career services for the arts & entertainment industry as well as 30+ traditional markets.

Poetry Contest - I remember them having this same contest, Tribute To A Poet Poetry Contest, several years ago, at the time, I did not win a cash award but I received a nice gift certificate. The first prize is now $5,000. Visit http://www.autobyografy.com search keyword(s): poetry contest or click any Tribute To A Poet link.

eZine - They have an online magazine, ONE e-magazine http://www.autobyografy.com/p/ONE/Subscriptions/Homepage.php where freelance writers can get paid up to $60 per article. This caught my eye, and the magazine itself blew my mind, it is so creative inside.

Career Starter - I found a talent guide for writers called the Writer's Report http://www.autobyografy.com/p/FPRL/Homepage.php that is like a career starter for those looking to start a career in writing. It contains step-by-step information on how to get started in the business, finding agents and managers, handling and overcoming rejection, putting together a cover letter, resume or portfolio, do's and don'ts, techniques, understanding contracts and agreements, how-to's, and writing industry evaluation.

Newsletters with Opportunities - There are two newsletters for freelance writers. One is for writers who like to write poems, Tribute To A Poet Newsletter http://www.autobyografy.com/p/Home/Newsletters.html , and the other is for writers who want to write for a variety of national media like magazines, newspapers, greeting cards, and so forth, The Dime Times Newsletter http://www.autobyografy.com/p/Home/Newsletters.html . Both offer paid opportunities.

Get Published - Writers can get their manuscripts published into an eBook and sell via their bookstore, Imist Books http://www.autobyografy.com/p/FabianMall/Homepage.php. I also noticed that they provide several marketing tools like featured writer spots, press releases, book reviews, self-publishing articles, etc.

The Autobyografy site http://www.autobyografy.com offers a whole lot more for other talents as well like dancers, photographers, actors, and so forth. Be prepared to browse for a while, the site is extensive. In addition, they offer a lot of freebies too. It's all about what you want!
