PayPal No Longer Requires Customer Account to Make Payment

June 14, 2004 -- Many alternative energy promoting groups and individuals utilize PayPal's convenient payment system for sending and receiving funds. PayPal has recently made a change that will make this even easier than it already was.

With a recent improvement to Website Payments, PayPal no longer requires the vendor's customer to create a PayPal account for most payment situations.

The streamlined new payment process applies to the following Website Payment types: Buy Now Buttons, Donations, and PayPal Shopping Cart, as well as Request Money. It does not apply to Subscriptions.

Now customers can complete their payments first, and then decide whether to save their information for future PayPal transactions. The purchase process is more streamlined, resulting in an increase in completed sales and higher customer satisfaction, says a statement on the PayPal website.

This process has been very well received.

Some customers were turned away in the past when they either had problems registering with PayPal, or because they preferred not to create an account with PayPal.

When customers decide to make a purchase, they are walked through four easy steps:

1. Shipping information - Customers enter their name and shipping address.

2. Billing information - Customers enter credit card information, email address and phone number. They also have the option to send a message to you.

3. Review of payment information - Customers review what they've entered to make sure it's correct. They can either edit the information or complete the checkout process.

4. Save customer information with PayPal (optional) - To shop more quickly and easily in the future, customers can save the personal information that they've already entered with PayPal. To create a PayPal account, all they need to do is choose a password and answer a few security questions.

Andrew Levy, CFO of Monarch Computer Systems, Inc said, Since this simplified checkout doesn't require a PayPal account, we've found that our customers are more likely to complete their transactions. If the trend continues, we're on pace to double our daily transaction volume.

Venders can disable the feature if they choose. Simply go to the Profile subtab, click on Website Payment Preferences under the Selling Preferences column, and check the yes/no box under PayPal Account Optional.
